NOMA National Conference

Conference is just around the corner! Join us in representing the NOMA Central Texas Chapter and register today!

The NOMA Kansas City Chapter is looking forward to welcoming you to the 2025 NOMA Annual Conference: Future Unfolding!

Kansas City is a city on the move—famous for jazz, BBQ, sports, and now, for bold growth and innovation. As we prepare to host the 2026 World Cup and continue reshaping our downtown, we’re asking: how do we build a future that’s truly equitable and inclusive?

This year’s theme challenges us to reflect, reimagine, and take action. Kansas City’s spirit of resilience, creativity, and community pride is everywhere—from 18th & Vine to the Crossroads Arts District, from iconic stadiums to pioneering small businesses.

Founded in 2019, the Kansas City NOMA Chapter is honored to host this year’s gathering. Together, let’s celebrate, connect, and shape a future that uplifts everyone.

Late registration begins August 11th so register today for the best rates and while there’s still room!

A Dream (re)Designed: Workshop + Social Hour with Dr. Marlon Johnson

A Dream (re)Designed: Workshop + Social Hour with Dr. Marlon Johnson

NOMA Central Texas & AIA Austin’s LGBTQIA+ Alliance present A Dream (re)Designed: Block Parties & Beloved Community Through Third Spaces.

This Workshop and social hour with Dr. Marlon Johnson centers on Playgrounds, Community Centers, & Corner Stores. Each location forms a memory about what it meant to play, live, and connect to our community. However, the loss of these valuable spaces has spurred an increase in loneliness and disconnection from people who are different from us. Dr. Marlon Johnson (Dean of Community Life at Seminary of the Southwest, Owner of Johnson Counseling and Consulting), will join NOMA and the LGBTQIA+ Alliance to explore the concept of Third Spaces and their importance for POC and LGBTQ Wellness.

We will do some sketching of our favorite childhood third spaces, hear a brief lecture of the concept of beloved community through design and development, and learn more about our opportunities to support and advocate for local and regional community third spaces that are on the rise in the Austin and Central Texas area.

BYOB – Bring Your Own Blanket (or chair) and sketchbook for an engaging family friendly workshop with Dr. Marlon Johnson. Light refreshments will be provided along with additional sketch materials. There are a limited number of chairs available onsite, so please bring something to sit on if you are able. Parking info will be emailed to registrants before the event..

WHEN: Thursday June 12th, 6:30 PM -8:30 PM

WHERE: Preservation Austin, McFarland-McBee House
