Project Pipeline
Project Pipeline is a summer camp designed to introduce young students to Architecture. Over two days, campers learn through hands-on design activities and games. This culminates in each camper designing a project that would benefit the community and building a physical model of their project.
Campers are paired with mentors that are Architects, Architecture students, and professionals from adjacent fields that are able to share their life experiences with the campers. This provides campers with an opportunity to have their questions about becoming and Architect answered and let’s them see that people from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances can become an Architect.

March Social - Austin
NOMA of Central Texas is hosting its first member social of the year with a Planter Workshop on Saturday, March 14 at 10 AM, hosted by Clay Imports at 12024 N Lamar Blvd in Austin. This hands‑on session is a great opportunity to get creative, learn planter‑making basics, and connect with fellow members.
Space is limited to 10 participants, and onsite parking is available (carpooling encouraged).

NOMAS Black Resilience Walking Tour
Anyone who questions the longstanding impacts of systemic racism needs to look no further than the 1928 Master Plan for an example of the devastation wrought by such practices. The plan established a six-square-mile “Negro District” in East Austin, and subsequently cut off infrastructure to existing Black communities outside of that area. Combined with real estate redlining—a practice in which banks refused home loans to Black applicants in certain neighborhoods—the 1928 Master Plan forced the relocation of thousands of Black citizens to East Austin, where they faced flooding, substandard housing, and poor access to schools and public services. The negative ramifications of this policy have continued well into the 21st century: a 2015 study found that the Austin metropolitan area had the highest level of economic segregation among all 350 U.S. metropolitan areas.
Despite these structural challenges, Austin’s Black community continued to thrive, as evidenced by historical places like Huston-Tillotson University, Downs Field, and Wesley United Methodist Church. Particularly inspiring are the works of Donna Carter, who is the first licensed Black female architect in Austin, as well as John S. Chase—the first licensed Black architect in the American South—who left an impressive architectural legacy in homes and churches across East Austin.

2026 EMPOWER DESIGN SYMPOSIUM | 3FOLD
ACT III: FOLDING AS A LENS FOR HISTORY, DESIGN, & POSSIBILITY
The Central Texas Chapter of The National Organization of Minority Architects presents the third annual Empower Design Symposium on February 21st, 2026.

Lunch, Snacks and Drinks will be provided by NOMA Central Texas!
The upcoming Symposium will take place in San Antonio, Texas and showcase engaging short format presentations (15-20 minutes) around topics on Architecture, Design, Advocacy, and Justice (see below). The purpose of the Empower Design Symposium is to educate members on issues that impact our local communities and highlight the ways that people are addressing these issues. We are asking members of our community to come share their particular area of knowledge and expertise to empower all of us to be able to be more effective in our roles as Architects and Designers. Join us as we tapped into the amazing wealth of thought leadership and curiosity that we have in our Texas Region and engaged in high impact discussions.
